Understanding My Journey

Founder

“I became involved in criminal activity at the age of ten, solely because my mum could not afford the items of clothing and footwear that I WANTED but not items that I NEEDED. By the age of 15/16 I was heavily involved in gangs and criminal activity; I was selling Class A drugs within my local area. By this time, I had built up a small name for myself within the criminal world.

By the age of 18 I had received my first prison sentence, I spent a total of 11.5 months out of 30 months in a Young Offenders Institution for Possession with Intent to Supply Class A drugs. I served the last 4.5 months of my sentence on Home Detention Curfew (tag), with a curfew of 7am-7pm. By 21 I was arrested and remanded into custody again, another drug related offence which I served just under 8 months. 7 days after my release in the summer 2006, my first daughter was born. In the spring 2011, my second daughter was born and by this time I was regarded as an Elder/Older and I was my own boss. I had several younger peers working for me and over four county lines running, I had my empire of which I had dreamed off.”

Understanding My Journey

I had several younger peers working for me and over four county lines running, I had my empire of which I had dreamed off. In 2013, I received another prison sentence, 5 years, to serve half. My change in mindset was brought on by me not seeing my daughters for 2.5 years, I thought it best so they would not have to encounter the searching by prison staff, sniffing by prison dogs or even just to associate the British flag with their daddy which is commonly seen on prison programs on UK television. I punished all three of us by making this decision and that for me was heart breaking. It made me realise that no matter how much money you make or spend on your loved ones, you will never be able to replace the time missed with them.

After my release in the summer of 2016, I started driving trucks for a living but quickly got bored as it was not what I wanted to do. I had a mentor whilst in prison (and still keep in regular contact to this present day) and he contacted me as promised, he got me a job in a Semi- Independent care home based in Bedford. The Director there was amazing, he looked past my DBS/past convictions and gave me a chance based on me as a person and how I presented to him but equally importantly due to my mentor putting his name and neck on the line for me. During my 6 years working in the Care Sector, I progressed from Support Worker to Area Manager, managing nine placements, twenty-three staff and seventeen young people.

I had the pleasure of meeting some great people through my years in the Care Sector, particularly a lady from Luton. This lady had her own provision which helped young and elderly people within her local community, she gave me the confidence to use my lived experiences and gained knowledge to project to the wider community. I was given the opportunity to give motivational speeches, sit on boards and discuss youth engagement and youth policies, I was able to attend schools, colleges and PRU and offer my services to young people that I may not necessarily meet through the Care System. I quickly realised between my personal and professional experiences, I was able to positively influence and change the mind-set of the Young People I supported in the Semi-Independent provision. This encouraged me to officially open my Consultancy in April 2019, to reach the wider array of the `Forgotten Youth`. In 2021 I suffered a major breakdown due to my physical health; it quickly affected my mental health which in turn, affected my finances. I took 12 months out to get the help I needed to push through my challenging times, with the help of numerous services within my community I was able to come out on the other side. This pushed me to rebrand my existing consultancy, as my company needed to reflect all the pain and suffering, I had experienced. With those intentions, I wanted to widen the services supplied thus came about the new name of “Positive Outcomes for You.”

Since developing this service, I have worked in mainstream schools, pupil referral units, colleges, universities and client’s homes across Bedfordshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Kent, London and Sussex. I have delivered violence reduction workshops and given motivational talks/assemblies, to raise awareness in safeguarding young people, parents, and other professionals in the wider community from gang culture.

Along my challenging path, it became apparent that I held a unique bespoke skill which allowed me to reach the most disengaged youths of today. Youths involved in criminal activity (willingly or under duress) and youths with behavioural issues that effectively are hindering their ability to learn. I use my lived experiences, along with the knowledge and skills learnt from collaborating with key people within the industry to change the mindset of the young people I work with, but society also needs to change their mindset to how they see today’s youths.

From a troubled past to a beacon of hope, I have defied the odds and forged a path of redemption and empowerment. My journey started amidst the grips of crime and despair, but through personal growth and unwavering determination, I have emerged as a catalyst for change. Drawing upon my own lived experiences, I now dedicate myself to guiding disengaged youth away from the perils of criminality and towards a future filled with promise.
